Larian Confirms Divinity Games Won’t Feature AI Art

‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ Studio Says Next ‘Divinity’ RPG Won’t Use AI-Generated Art

Larian Studios, the developer behind Baldur’s Gate 3, said its upcoming role-playing game set in the Divinity universe will not include generative AI art.

The clarification came from studio head Swen Vincke in response to a fan question. In his statement, Vincke said, “there is not going to be any GenAI art in Divinity,” while also noting the studio still sees potential benefits to the technology.

The comment lands as creative industries continue to debate where generative AI fits into production pipelines, particularly around originality, artist credit, and the sourcing of training data. For game studios, the issue has become a public-facing one as players increasingly ask how games are made and what tools are used in art and asset creation.

By drawing a clear line on AI-generated art for Divinity, Larian is signaling its approach to one of the most contested technology shifts in modern game development, while leaving room for other uses of AI that the studio believes may be beneficial.
