Agriculture Crypto Bill Markup Pushed to January, Chair Says

Agriculture Committee delays crypto market structure bill markup to late January, Boozman says

Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Boozman (R-AR) said Monday that the committee will postpone the markup of a cryptocurrency market structure bill, shifting it from this Thursday to the last week of January.

A markup is the step where a committee debates, amends, and votes on whether to advance a bill. Moving the date signals that negotiations are still active and that lawmakers want more time before taking a formal vote.

Boozman said bipartisan talks progressed over the past weekend, but that additional time is needed to finalize outstanding issues before the legislation can move forward.

The Senate Agriculture Committee plays a central role in crypto market structure discussions because digital-asset regulation often intersects with the oversight of commodity markets. A market structure bill is generally aimed at clarifying how different crypto assets are treated under U.S. law and which regulators have authority over key parts of the market.

The delay underscores the complexity of reaching a bipartisan agreement on crypto oversight, even as lawmakers continue working toward a framework they believe can advance through the committee process.
