Kraken Launches CFTC-Regulated Perpetual Futures for US Traders

Kraken Brings CFTC-Regulated Perpetual Futures To US Traders

Kraken has introduced perpetual futures trading for US customers through a product regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), expanding the exchange’s derivatives offering in a market where access to crypto futures has typically been limited.

The launch centers on CFTC-regulated perpetual futures, a type of derivatives contract that resembles traditional futures but is designed to trade continuously without an expiry date. Perpetual futures are widely used in global crypto markets because they allow traders to maintain directional exposure over time without rolling contracts at set maturities.

The move matters because the US has a more restrictive framework for crypto derivatives than many offshore jurisdictions. Many major exchanges have offered perpetual futures outside the US, while American users have often had fewer options due to regulatory requirements and enforcement risk. By structuring the offering under CFTC oversight, Kraken is positioning the product within an established US derivatives regime.

More broadly, the rollout highlights how crypto firms are increasingly using regulated pathways to provide products that have long been popular internationally. It also underscores the CFTC’s role as a key regulator for US derivatives markets, including certain crypto-related futures products, as exchanges seek compliant ways to serve domestic demand.
