Kansai Electric Rewards App Brings JPYC Stablecoin to Polygon

Kansai Electric Rewards App Opens JPYC Stablecoin Conversion On Polygon

Kansai Electric Power Co. has enabled stablecoin conversion for users of its rewards app, allowing points or balances in the program to be converted into JPYC on the Polygon blockchain.

The update links a large, mainstream consumer rewards program to an on-chain asset pegged to the Japanese yen, using Polygon as the settlement network. In practical terms, it introduces a new path for app users to move value from a traditional loyalty environment into a blockchain-based token format.

JPYC is a yen-linked stablecoin issued in Japan, designed to maintain a stable value relative to the yen rather than fluctuating like typical cryptocurrencies. Polygon is a widely used Ethereum-compatible network that is often chosen for consumer-facing applications due to lower transaction costs and faster confirmations compared with Ethereum’s main chain.

The move matters because it shows stablecoins being integrated into everyday digital services outside of crypto-native exchanges and wallets. Loyalty programs are among the largest sources of small, frequent-value transactions, and enabling conversion into a stablecoin can broaden how users store or transfer that value on-chain.

More broadly, the announcement fits into a wider trend of established companies experimenting with blockchain rails for payments and rewards, particularly through stablecoins that aim to avoid the volatility associated with other crypto assets.
