Kansai Electric Adds JPYC Stablecoin on Polygon

Kansai Electric Rewards App Opens JPYC Stablecoin Conversion On Polygon

Kansai Electric has enabled users of its rewards app to convert points into JPYC, a yen-denominated stablecoin, using the Polygon blockchain.

The update links a mainstream consumer rewards program with on-chain settlement, letting users move value from a closed loyalty system into a tokenized form that can be held or transferred within the crypto ecosystem. By supporting JPYC on Polygon, the feature relies on a network designed for low-cost transactions compared with many first-layer blockchains.

Stablecoins are crypto tokens intended to track the value of a reference asset—in this case, the Japanese yen. JPYC is positioned as a yen-linked stablecoin, and Polygon is a widely used blockchain network for issuing and transferring tokens.

The broader significance is that the conversion feature brings stablecoin utility closer to everyday services by connecting rewards points—typically usable only within specific partner networks—to an asset that can circulate across compatible wallets and applications. It also reflects ongoing efforts in Japan to test consumer-facing uses of blockchain-based payments and digital value instruments through familiar products such as points and loyalty programs.
