Asia Welcomes US Tokenized Money Fund from Franklin Templeton, HashKey

Franklin Templeton and Hashkey roll out U.S. tokenized money fund in Asia

Franklin Templeton and HashKey have launched a U.S. tokenized money market fund offering in Asia, extending the reach of blockchain-based versions of traditional cash-management products into a region where regulated digital-asset infrastructure has been developing quickly.

The rollout brings together a major global asset manager and a digital-asset firm known for operating regulated exchange and custody services in parts of Asia. The product is designed to give eligible investors access to a money market fund through tokenized units recorded on a blockchain, rather than through conventional fund rails.

Why it matters: tokenized money market funds are one of the more practical applications of tokenization because they aim to pair familiar, lower-volatility instruments with faster settlement and easier programmability. For institutional investors and wealth platforms, these structures can potentially streamline subscriptions, redemptions, and recordkeeping compared with traditional fund distribution, depending on the jurisdiction and implementation.

The move also reflects a broader trend: asset managers have increasingly been experimenting with tokenization to modernize access to traditional securities and funds, while regulators in several Asian markets have been building frameworks for custody, token issuance, and compliant digital-asset trading.

By launching in Asia, Franklin Templeton and HashKey are positioning tokenized fund technology within a market that includes both sophisticated institutional demand and an expanding set of regulated digital-asset venues. The development underscores how tokenization is shifting from pilot programs toward live distribution for mainstream financial products, particularly in areas where compliant infrastructure is already in place.
