Trump Spotlight Global Crypto Abuses at White House

Trump to spotlight overseas crypto scams at White House cybercrime event

President Donald Trump is set to use a White House event on Wednesday focused on cybercrime prevention to highlight his administration’s efforts to pursue foreign criminal networks that target Americans with fraudulent crypto investment schemes, according to a White House official.

The session is expected to feature government actions such as the seizure of fraudulent crypto investment websites and initiatives aimed at stopping online impersonation scams. A White House official said U.S. law enforcement has halted about $833 million in fraudulent crypto transactions under Trump’s watch.

Several senior officials are expected to attend, including Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, FBI Director Kash Patel, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Attorney General Todd Blanche, the official said.

The event underscores how crypto-enabled fraud has become a central issue in broader cybercrime enforcement, particularly when scams originate abroad but reach U.S. victims through online platforms and social engineering tactics.

The White House messaging also lands amid heightened attention on the Trump family’s ties to the crypto sector. Trump’s annual financial disclosure showed that a significant share of his reported income last year came from digital-asset-related activity, including revenue tied to World Liberty Financial (WLFI) and sales of Trump-branded meme coins.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said, in comments reported by Reuters, that “all actions by President Trump and his administration are taken in the best interest of the American people.”
