Crypto Platform Loses $250M in Withdrawals After Airdrop

Lighter trading platform sees $250 million withdrawn 24 hours after airdrop

Roughly $250 million was withdrawn from decentralized perpetual exchange Lighter within 24 hours of its $675 million airdrop of the project’s native token, LIT, according to onchain data shared by analytics firm Bubblemaps.

Bubblemaps said the outflows were concentrated across major networks, with about $201.9 million leaving on Ethereum and roughly $52.2 million withdrawn on Arbitrum.

The timing underscores a common pattern around token generation events (TGEs) and airdrops, where users often withdraw funds after distributions to rebalance positions, adjust hedges, or move capital to other yield and incentive programs. Bubblemaps’ CEO said the Dec. 31 outflows observed on Lighter are “not uncommon” in that context.

Separately, Bubblemaps highlighted wallet activity tied to the airdrop. The firm reported that five linked wallets received around 4% of the circulating supply via the airdrop and systematically liquidated tokens.

There were also reports that around 2.76 million LIT have been sold since the TGE, and that Lighter may have sold millions of dollars worth of LIT shortly after the airdrop. The available information does not detail the counterparties or execution venues involved.

The withdrawals matter because they can influence a protocol’s total value locked (TVL) and reflect how sticky liquidity is after incentives are distributed—especially for derivatives venues that rely on deep, stable collateral to support trading activity.

Lighter’s token supply details disclosed alongside the rollout indicate a 1 billion LIT total supply, allocated to the ecosystem (50%), the core team (26%), and early investors (24%). The project also stated that 250 million tokens were unlocked immediately for its Season 1 and 2 “Ignition” airdrops, and that 250 million LIT—representing 25% of total supply—was transferred ahead of the distribution.
