Crypto Market Rules Stall in Senate Until Late January

Markup of Senate Crypto Market Structure Bill Pushed to Late January
The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry has postponed a planned markup of sweeping crypto market structure legislation, pushing the session back to the final week of January.
The committee had been scheduled to hold a markup meeting on Jan. 15 to review the proposal. That meeting has now been rescheduled, shifting consideration of the bill later in the month.
Committee Chairman John Boozman (R-AR) said the delay comes as bipartisan talks have progressed, signaling continued negotiations around the legislation ahead of formal committee action.
The Agriculture Committee has played a central role in crypto policy debates because market structure proposals can affect how digital asset activity is overseen and which regulators have clearer authority. A markup is a key procedural step where lawmakers debate, amend, and vote on whether to advance a bill.
The postponement does not change the bill’s scope on its own, but it extends the timeline for the committee’s next major decision point and underscores that discussions are still active as the Senate works toward a framework for crypto markets.
