Kansai Electric Launches JPYC Stablecoin on Polygon

Kansai Electric Rewards App Opens JPYC Stablecoin Conversion On Polygon

Kansai Electric Power’s rewards app has added a new option that allows users to convert points into JPYC, a Japanese yen-linked stablecoin, using the Polygon blockchain.

The update connects a mainstream consumer rewards program with an on-chain digital currency, letting users move value from an app-based points system into a stablecoin format that can be held and transferred on a public network.

JPYC is designed to track the value of the Japanese yen, a structure commonly used in crypto to provide a more stable unit of account than volatile tokens. Polygon is an Ethereum-compatible network widely used for lower-cost transactions compared with Ethereum mainnet, which can make small-value conversions and transfers more practical.

The broader significance is that it brings stablecoin conversion into a non-crypto-native setting, where users may already be earning points through everyday activity. It also reflects a continued trend of traditional companies experimenting with blockchain rails for consumer-facing use cases such as rewards, vouchers, and payments.
