LEGO Unveils Smart Brick: Light, Sound and Silicon for 2×4 Classic

Lego Unveils “Smart Brick” at CES 2026, Adding Sensors and Sound to the Classic 2×4
Lego used CES 2026 to introduce a new version of its most recognizable building block: a standard-sized 2×4 brick with built-in electronics, dubbed the LEGO SMART Brick.
According to the company’s description, the Smart Brick integrates multiple technologies designed to make physical builds more interactive. The brick includes sensors, an accelerometer, light sensing, and a sound sensor, along with a miniature speaker driven by an onboard synthesiser.
The announcement matters because it represents a shift in where Lego is placing advanced functionality: inside the familiar core form factor rather than in larger dedicated electronic components. By embedding sensing and audio capabilities into a classic brick shape, Lego is signaling an intent to keep interactive play closer to the standard building experience that many users already understand.
More broadly, the Smart Brick fits into a long-running trend in consumer electronics and toys toward blending physical products with embedded silicon. CES, as a venue, has increasingly been used to showcase these kinds of hybrid devices—where traditional objects gain new capabilities through sensors, motion detection, and onboard sound.
