New York Lawmakers Target Prediction Markets as Rangers-Polymarket Deal Unfolds

New York Lawmakers Target Prediction Markets as NHL’s Rangers Ink Polymarket Deal

Polymarket has signed a new partnership with the NHL’s New York Rangers at the same time New York lawmakers renew efforts to restrict prediction-market style sports betting.

On Thursday, Polymarket became the Rangers’ “exclusive prediction markets partner”. The deal allows Polymarket to display odds during games at Madison Square Garden, placing prediction market data directly into the in-arena viewing experience.

Separately, the New York Assembly has reintroduced a bill targeting prediction market sports betting. The move signals continued scrutiny of products that resemble wagering markets, particularly when they touch mainstream sports and audiences.

The two developments highlight a growing tension around prediction markets: platforms are seeking more visibility through high-profile partnerships, while policymakers consider where these markets fit within existing sports betting and gambling frameworks.
