Senate Crypto Market Structure Bill Markup Delayed to Late January

Markup of Senate Crypto Market Structure Bill Pushed to Late January

The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry has postponed a planned markup of major crypto market structure legislation, moving the session from Jan. 15 to the final week of January.

Committee Chairman John Boozman (R-AR) said the delay comes as bipartisan talks on the proposal have progressed, indicating lawmakers are continuing to work through outstanding issues before taking the bill up for formal consideration.

A markup is a key step in the legislative process, when a committee reviews a bill’s text, considers amendments, and votes on whether to advance it. Shifting the markup date effectively extends negotiations and pushes back the timetable for any committee vote.

The bill is described as sweeping crypto market structure legislation, a category of policy that generally focuses on clarifying rules for digital asset markets and how oversight is handled. The Agriculture Committee’s involvement reflects its role in areas of financial regulation that intersect with commodities-related policy.

With the markup now rescheduled for late January, the next formal committee milestone on the proposal will happen later than originally planned, while cross-party discussions continue.
