SIM-Swap Fraudster Jailed for Splurging Stolen Crypto on Gold Grills

SIM-Swap Fraudster Who Spent Stolen Crypto on Gold Grills and Dubai Trips Jailed

A fraudster involved in a SIM-swap scheme has been jailed after using stolen cryptocurrency to fund luxury purchases, including gold grills and trips to Dubai.

SIM-swap fraud involves taking control of a victim’s mobile phone number, typically allowing the attacker to intercept calls or messages used to verify access to online accounts. When those accounts hold cryptocurrency, the takeover can enable funds to be transferred without the owner’s consent.

The case highlights how stolen digital assets can be converted into visible luxury spending. Gold jewellery and international travel are among the ways proceeds from crypto-related fraud may be used after funds are taken.

It also underscores the risks of relying on phone-based authentication for accounts holding cryptocurrency. Once a mobile number is compromised, attackers may be able to bypass security checks connected to that number.
