SpaceX and Tesla Merge to Create Bitcoin Treasury Behemoth

Musk’s SpaceX-Tesla Merger Would Create a Bitcoin Treasury Behemoth

Elon Musk said SpaceX and Tesla are exploring a potential merger, a move that would combine two of the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin positions onto a single balance sheet.

According to the companies’ public disclosures, Tesla reported holding 11,509 BTC in its most recent quarterly filing, while SpaceX disclosed 18,712 BTC in the S-1 it filed ahead of its June IPO. Together, that totals 30,221 BTC, valued at roughly $2.5 billion at Bitcoin’s recent price near $83,000.

Musk said both boards have formed special committees to evaluate the tie-up, and that he cannot participate because of his stakes in each company.

The potential consolidation matters because it would place a major Bitcoin treasury under one corporate structure, pushing the combined entity into the top tier of public companies by Bitcoin holdings. Previous coverage noted that such a combined position would sit among the largest non-mining corporate holdings, behind only a small group of top holders such as Michael Saylor’s Strategy and a few others.

A merger would also concentrate Bitcoin exposure at a time when prices remain volatile, potentially increasing investor focus on governance, treasury policy, and accounting treatment for digital assets. While the deal remains preliminary and could still fall apart, the discussion has renewed attention on the scale of Bitcoin held across Musk-linked companies.
