StarkNet Returns: Ethereum Layer-2 After Outage

Ethereum Layer-2 Network Starknet Back Online Following Outage

Ethereum layer-2 scaling network Starknet is back online after a block production issue caused more than four hours of downtime early Monday.

The incident began with reports of slow block production just before 5:00 a.m. ET, disrupting the network’s ability to process and confirm transactions as normal. Starknet later said on X that service has been fully restored following the outage.

In its update, Starknet added that some transactions submitted during a narrow window may not have been processed correctly, indicating that users who sent transactions around the time of the disruption may need to verify their transaction status.

The episode matters because layer-2 networks like Starknet are designed to help Ethereum scale by handling activity off the main chain and settling it back to Ethereum. When block production slows or stops, users and applications relying on the network can face delays in transaction confirmations and disruptions to onchain activity.

  • What happened: A block production issue led to slow blocks and a multi-hour service disruption.
  • Duration: More than four hours of downtime, beginning around 5:00 a.m. ET.
  • Status: Starknet says service is fully restored, with a caution about a narrow window of potentially affected transactions.
