Trump Crowned Crypto Person of the Year; BTC at 87K Interview

Trump named Crypto Person of the Year as bitcoin retreats to $87K after a year of sharp gains

President Donald Trump was named Crypto Person of the Year amid a year in which crypto markets posted strong gains before giving back some momentum, with bitcoin falling to $87,000.

For much of the year, digital assets rallied. Bitcoin nearly doubled from when Trump was elected in November 2024 to its all-time high of around $126,000 per coin in October, underscoring how quickly sentiment shifted during the period.

Trump, the majority shareholder of Trump Media, has also taken a more active posture toward the sector, publicly championing the growth of cryptocurrency. The recognition links the year’s market performance to a broader political and corporate backdrop in which crypto has become a more visible policy and business issue.

The combination of a major political figure receiving an industry accolade and bitcoin’s large price swings highlights two defining themes for the year: crypto’s increasing relevance in mainstream public life and the market’s continued volatility even after sustained rallies.
