Zcash Wallet Makers Launch CashZ Startup

Builders behind popular Zcash wallet Zashi to launch new startup CashZ
Josh Swihart, the former chief executive officer of Electric Coin Company (ECC), announced the creation of a new for-profit startup called CashZ.
According to Swihart, CashZ has been formed by the same team that built the Zashi wallet and contributed to recent Zcash (ZEC) protocol development. The group includes cryptographers and developers who previously worked at ECC, a team closely associated with building key parts of the Zcash ecosystem.
The announcement also included plans for a new Zcash wallet named cashZ, which is being developed by that same cohort.
The development is notable for Zcash users and builders because it signals that a team with direct experience shipping widely used wallet software and working on core protocol upgrades is continuing its work in a new, independent organization. In practice, wallets are a primary way users interact with privacy-focused networks like Zcash, making wallet teams an important part of ecosystem infrastructure.
ECC has historically been one of the most recognizable organizations in the Zcash ecosystem, and the CashZ launch highlights how ongoing Zcash development is also carried forward by teams and contributors operating under different structures, including new commercial entities.
