Google has enabled a new privacy feature in Android 17 aimed at reducing the amount of user information shared during everyday web activity. The change is positioned as a privacy improvement, but it does not fully obscure a person’s browsing behavior.

What changed is that Android 17 now turns this feature on by default, rather than leaving it as an optional setting. That makes it more likely to affect how a broad range of apps and services handle user data on Android devices, particularly when people browse the web through in-app browsers or embedded web views.

Why it matters is that privacy protections on mainstream operating systems can influence how user identity and activity are tracked across apps, websites, and advertising networks. For crypto users, browsing privacy is closely tied to security and personal risk—whether someone is researching exchanges, interacting with Web3 apps, or managing accounts tied to real-world identity.
