A proposed Bitcoin fork billed as an “anti-spam” alternative stalled almost immediately after launch, managing to mine only two blocks before activity stopped.
The short-lived start underscores a recurring challenge for new Bitcoin-derived networks: launching the software is only one part of the process. A fork also needs sustained miner participation, infrastructure support, and a community of users and developers to keep producing blocks and maintaining a live chain.
Forks are typically created by copying Bitcoin’s open-source code and changing certain rules or parameters. In this case, the stated goal was to address spam-related issues, a broad category that can refer to unwanted or low-value on-chain activity that consumes block space. However, without continued block production, a network effectively becomes unusable—transactions cannot reliably confirm, and exchanges, wallets, and services have little reason to integrate it.
Mining only two blocks and then halting suggests the network did not attract enough ongoing hashpower to continue securing the chain and extending it. In proof-of-work systems like Bitcoin, miners are responsible for ordering transactions into blocks and adding those blocks to the ledger; if miners leave, the chain stops advancing.
The episode highlights why most forks struggle to gain traction, even when they are framed around a specific technical or social objective. Without broad coordination and consistent incentives for miners and participants, a new chain can quickly lose momentum—regardless of the branding attached to its purpose.
