Bitcoin Traders Eye Fed Move; Markets Prepare

Fed Rate Decision: What Markets and Bitcoin Traders Can Expect
The Federal Reserve is set to announce its latest interest-rate decision at 2 p.m. ET, followed by a press conference with Chair Kevin Warsh. Heading into the release, futures and prediction markets are pricing a rate hold at better than 90%, suggesting investors broadly expect policymakers to leave borrowing costs unchanged for now.
The Fed’s current target range stands at 3.75% to 4.00% after a 12-0 vote for a quarter-point increase at the September meeting. That decision came as inflation and energy prices remained key concerns, with September inflation at 3.7% and oil trading near $100 per barrel.
In crypto markets, bitcoin was trading around $80,700, after a rally that has recently shown signs of slowing. Broader crypto prices were mixed, with modest moves across major tokens.
While Wednesday’s decision appears largely priced in, investor attention has been shifting toward the Fed’s next meeting on Dec. 8-9. Markets are assigning roughly 75% to 80% odds to another quarter-point hike at that meeting, based on futures and aggregated prediction-market pricing from platforms including Kalshi and Polymarket.
Recent inflation data has reinforced the “higher for longer” discussion in markets. A Friday report showed consumer prices rose 0.4% in August after a 0.1% increase in July, lifting the annual inflation rate to 3.4%.
Fed communications also point to a less settled outlook than headline odds may suggest. The committee held rates at 3.50% to 3.75% in July, but three officials dissented and favored an increase at the time. Meanwhile, minutes from September’s meeting indicated most officials believed another increase would likely be appropriate by year-end, with several describing the prevailing policy rate as “not restrictive or only mildly restrictive.”
For bitcoin traders and risk markets more broadly, the Fed decision matters because policy expectations influence U.S. Treasury yields, the dollar, and overall liquidity conditions—factors that often ripple into equities and crypto. With a hold widely anticipated, the focus is expected to remain on the tone of Warsh’s press conference and how the Fed frames inflation progress and the path to year-end.
