AI Pivot Investor Bets Bitcoin to Hit $57K

Investor who urged a crypto-to-AI pivot in 2023 says bitcoin could revisit $57,000

Technology investor and podcast host Jason Calacanis urged followers to sell bitcoin on Tuesday, arguing that the cryptocurrency could fall back to $57,000 within the next 12 months and would not set another record high.

Bitcoin was trading near $79,600 at the time of his comments, according to CoinDesk data, making Calacanis’s target roughly 28% lower than prevailing prices.

Calacanis framed his view as part of a broader shift in where he thinks capital should go: away from bitcoin and toward artificial intelligence. He said he wants investors to move funds from bitcoin into AI-linked opportunities, continuing a theme he has pushed since 2023, when he publicly told crypto founders to pivot to AI.

In his posts, Calacanis pointed to waning investor enthusiasm and outflows from bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) as evidence that demand could be weakening. Other commentary around the call noted that ETF flows have been mixed rather than uniformly negative, but Calacanis’s argument relies heavily on the flow narrative.

His latest stance also reflects a critique he has made in recent months: that AI products can offer a clearer near-term use case for users, while crypto—especially bitcoin’s store-of-value positioning—can be harder for mainstream audiences to connect to in practical terms.

Calacanis has also indicated exposure to AI-related crypto themes, including TAO, the token associated with Bittensor, an AI-focused network.

The comments matter because they highlight a continuing debate inside tech and investing circles: whether bitcoin can attract a fresh base of long-term buyers at scale, or whether investor attention will increasingly concentrate in projects tied to computing demand and AI services. In market terms, it underscores how narratives around capital rotation—between bitcoin, ETFs, and AI-linked assets—remain a key factor shaping sentiment.
